Going to paint chassis and 'pans, whats the best stuff to use, bearing in mind its gonna be brush painted, and needs to be hard wearing. Not rivet counting so doesnt have to be car specific paint, although it does have to be white.

I could be wrong but I would use this stuff on the metal. It reacts with it and bonds better. I would then paint your white over the top of it and you'll have a nice rust preventitive coat where is should be and you can touch up the white as and when required knowing that the POR15 should never need it.

The white paint may flake off over time and pull the POR15 off with it, but if you paint the POR15 on first that should never happen.

Yeah that would be the way to go, obvious really when you think about it!

Lee's brought up a good point there...I've heard that POR 15 is the dog's but it's brittle like Hammerite...has anyone out there had any success putting two pack over the top of POR 15?

Hi Folks,

Por15 and Miracle paint can be overpainted, BUT.

You need to key the surface and then ETCH PRIME!!!

If you don't,,, it won't STICK!!!

POR15 make their own metal prep- it rust kills and you can paint the POR15 strait on top.

Read about it here: http://www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp? ... t=POR%2D15

and here: http://www.carcraft.com/search/index.ht ... Text=por15

ive used por and it must be overcoated as it will break down if exposed to uv light after a period of time.you can over coat it with 2 pack if its not fully cured or if it is key the surface and etch it as baccy says.think i might give this a try out performs por apparently

i've been using rust bullet on my rangey, but too early to say whether its any good or not. Only thing i don't like is the colour. It's hard to see where to paint when its silver, and so is shiny metal. but it goes on lovely and really sticks.

I have used POR 15 and is far more durable and gives a better finish than Hammerite. Hammerite?! is more like Hammeroff or Peeloff etc etc - total krap IMO :P

Baccy is right, overpainting is a problem particulary once POR has gone off. Even after using the POR etch, was still not convinced of a good key :?

In any case, having used the stuff would recommend it and will be using it again :thumbright: Don't get this stuff on your hands!!!! - it doesn't come off! I went to the office for a week with black hands

2 Pack Epoxy primer is the way to go - that is if you have the facilities to spray poison
