Clutch Slip.???

Excuse my lack of gear knowledge here...
Torqueflite 727-cheeter reverse pattern-and valvebody

A trip out in the Charger this week am pretty sure that on a acceleration the box didn't appear to change to 3 (Manuel process by me) obvious was the high engine revs and my immediate look at the rev counter that was in the 4-5 mark going from 60-70.
Am sure the box didn't immediately go in 3.
Can or could this be a clutch slip. Oh I should add the car hasnt had a lot of use of recent stood up a fair bit. Apart from this coming weekend when I want to take her off to sussex on a club thing.
So want to to be sure the box is ok.
Any good advice would be much appr.
Rich.

Didn't risk taking the car on a long run. (weekend show)
So today drained down all the old gearbox oil, cleaned things up a bit.
New oil and the box now seems ok,

Thanks for your help guys.

The trans oil wasn't the colour it should have been plus it was almost like P...s.
Not sure how long its been in there i think going back to Dave's time. But I thought just start again and put some new oil in.
Thanks.
Rich.

Check the colour of the fluid on the stick every now and then. This is a good indicator of the health of your box. Should always be that nice reddish colour, and smell fresh (unless you have some fandangled blue or green race stuff ;) ) Any discolouration or smell can indicate problems such as burnt clutches and all the associated problems that brings........My 904 was due for a freshen up when I noticed the trans fluid was darker than normal (black  ) Luckily enough it just needed freshening as I'd caught it early. ;)
