right then chaps have had no luck getting a used / as new convertor so am going to import one from the US. with the 3000rpm stall i'm after

who's got a recommended make of convertor as some internet mopar sites talk of good and bad.

better ones appear to be TCI, B&M, Turbo action

or do i get a mopar perfoamance one.

The ones you mention are good/bad depending on who you talk to. Price and quality of build vary a lot but in general you get what you pay for. But how good a quality do you really need?

I personally take price as my guide because I simply cannot afford to pay $800 for a converter when a $400 one will do the trick.

With this in mind my last two converters have been TCI units. I currently use the TCI 'Street Fighter'. I have been told by some people (all americans and maybe Andy?) that TCI are 'rubbish' but I know a lot of people using them with no problems. Including myself.

However if you use NOS you need to take that into account when picking one too.

You might consider getting one custom built over here, Sussex auto parts have the same computor programme that the Americans use to design one to suit your application. Cliff Turner had them build one for his 10 second Dart, and he tells me he's very happy with it, I think you'd be paying around ?400. You can get them on 013238488866 ask for Len. I can recommend Turbo Action and Neil Chance in the States, I have used both with no issues.

Like Dave says, you'll probably find good and bad reports for many of them........however, I have found a pretty strong concensus over the years to avoid GER at all costs, and that Dynamic are good solid converters that work well. They do high end stuff too, but their cheaper 2800 stall type seem reliable and good feedback. That's one of the reasons I ended up with one in my car anyway.....

question is which ones better suited for my street / srtrip F**D capri

its running a 360 mopar sb with 10.1 comp Keith black hyper pistons, purple shaft cam 284 duration .484" lift, 2.02 1.6 valved mild ported std heads, strip dominator single plane plenum, 750 dp carb, headers, dual 2!/2" H piped exhaust , t727 with shift kit, rear axle current 3.09 with 24" tyres.
soon to have 3.5 gears

which stalls best?????

I used to have a 2400 convertor in the my Barracuda and switched earlier this year to a 3800 converter and it maid the world of difference to the way the car left the line but for day to day driving its a bit of a pain if you go for the higher stall make sure you have a good cooler.
BTW my old B&M 2400 is for sale for ?60.00 if interested only done about 1500 miles only replaced because I wanted a higher one.

2400 is too low. 3400 is probably too high. Your car is quite light though so 3400 stall may not drive too bad.

Light car, non radical gears (even the 3.55), single plane manifold, medium hot cam...some of those would Bananarama! one way, some the other.
Somewhere in between would be my guess!! but that doesn't help!

2400 is not much more than some stock Mopar convertors.
Depends on what kind of drivng you'll mostly be doing, but overall....I'd say the 3400 (I'm ignoring the fact they are different makes, I can't comment on either from experience, although both are well established brands)

Also bear in mind that I may have no idea what I'm talking about, so I'd let the experts chime in.
