Hi
My lad is looking to buy a peugeot 306 diesel/turbo diesel as his first car. The one's we have seen for sale on the internet are around a P/R reg with approx 120,000 + miles
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what I should be looking for when buying a diesel car? I have only ever had petrol myself. Any information would be useful.
Thanks Mitch

Peugeots are sopposed to do head gaskets all to easily but I 've had 5 and no probs. We have one now had it nearly 12 months but not happy with it . It had an engine change before I bought it but it's been problematic. Electrics mainly nothing to do with the engine itself but having oil leek probs and thats why I'm getting shut! Ours is a series 2 (S reg) and to be honest I dont think the build quality is as good as the earlier cars. The best car I've ever owned to date was a 1995 405 1.9 td. Wish I still had it
If it's had a timing belt replaced at 70 thou intervals they wont let you down

Also Mitch, if the timing belt goes it's an expensive rebuild so it's best to find out when it was last changed when your asking questions

Mitch, I had a R reg 306, did 98K miles, never had a problem, was a stunning little car, very reliable, and never replaced any engine bits
Was my 1st diesel

yea me other half and her old man have always had pug d and td. one of the best engines around, but all of them ive had to do a head gasket on, oil in the water, but even when they went, they keep going for ages, easy to do though.

306 DTurbo is the one to have, generally good cars, bad on CV joints, nice examples still fetch good ££££, check your insurance first if your lad is still a pup it might be a lot more ££££ than you think
