Saw this on Piston Heads

I was just curious. How does the 3 stick shift work, I've never seen one before?

Dunno, must be like a "Lenco" lever-per-gear set up as used in drag cars. Can't see the point on the street - in fact it must be a pain; other than the "cool" factor.

It's an odd one, the advert says it's a four speed automatic, how can it be an automatic with 3 gear levers?

I'm sure we had this on the board a while ago and Sandy probably explained the whole thing, but as he is having a little sabbatical on some other dreary old message boards, it may be quicker to do a search! ;)

I scanned this in from an old Hot Rod or Car Craft. Annoyingly I can't find the full size scan, so I have tried to blow up the relevant bit for you. Oldsmobile fitted them from the factory to their early 80's Hurst Olds's.

Aren't they called Hurst Lightning Rods?

Edit: posted same times as Sandy :P beat me by a nanosecond ;)
