Automatic? http://challenger.mpoli.fi/web/AUTOMATICchart.xls

Or 4-speed? http://challenger.mpoli.fi/web/4SPEEDchart.xls

Just enter your tyre/axle details and it will tell you how many teeth you need on your speedo gear and what rpm/mph you get in each gear.

Do I have this right? You are fitting tyres to match the speedo gear rather than the other way around?

You do realise it is a 2min job with a cheap part and one screw to swap the speedo gear don't you?
Easier and cheaper than fitting new tyres.

sorry dave
am buying a new set of wheels and was just looking at what sizes etc would fit best and keep the speedo about right
they are 17x8 all round and was thinling of using 245 45 17
but not sure wether to go the 9.5 route on the rear and run a 275-285 40

I would personally fit what fits and looks best and spend an extra £2 on a new speedo gear.

The original tyres certainly were not the best fit.
