vinyl roof

While waiting for my new Mopar to be unearthed from its slumber what is the best way to remove the Vinyl Roof? does one get it from the corner and pull or is there another way?

Hoping you wont have the same problem as sirdppc / Dan, most of his Chargers roof peeled off with the vinyl! Just take it easy when your a peeling!

You can get away with cutting around the clips. It makes putting the new top on more tricky though.

evil evil things, burn it burn it burn it.
Mine came away like wall paper on the Fury, but others have been in tiny strips.
Get the old glue off a scotchbrite pad soaked in Celulose Thinners or Acetone (nail polish remover) works well

My understanding is that if you intend putting a new top on it is better to leave the old glue in place.
Obviously if you have rust to repair that is not possible.

really? I'd have thought you'd have difficulty getting it smooth as the only glue usually ends up quite rough textured and eben roof cover vinyl' not that thick. Though to be honest I usually rip em up and BURN THEM BURN BURN BURN THE EVIL VINYL ROOF

Get the picture Fellas,might just leave it on then.The last but one Mopar I had took around 1500 hours and I did not finish that one(the old Peach bros Runner)and to be honest I do not want to spend anywhere near as much time on this project.........................Strange that no one has asked what the Car is. :blob5:

I dont need to ask Pete, there is a certain little bird! Like I say well done. Would love to see details and pic of it. 8)
PS I like vinyl roofs (very period), mine has the original foam backed type, fine in New Mexico, put probably holding 2 gallons of rain against the steel roof now!
Ive heard about keeping old glue on, dont know why. And am I the only person who thinks that a vinyl roof is almost mandatory on a 68-70 Charger (other than the General Lee)? Really does suit it.

I am told it is easier to stick the new vinyl on if the old glue is still on the foof. Better adhesion to the steel and keeps the rust out better I think?

I was under the impression that to do the job properly (NOT as per the factory) You have to spray the roof in paint first then stick yer vinyl on that to stop the rust, or have I got that wrong. I do know that a lumpy vinyl roof is sometimes just the glue balling up from sun scorch rather than rust.
