is the hole in the speedo face between 80 and 90 for a red ignition light??

No, it's the main beam light.

Prob bulb has blown or dropped out of holder , good luck with taking the dash out , always found when i fix the problem i've gotta take it out again to fix two more.

ok cheers , fortunately it’s already out of the car, the car’s got a custom panel in there that the previous owner built, but I want to get the original sorted and in. I’ve never seen the original dash in the car, which is why I wasn’t sure on the lamp in the speedo

I understand that the 7805 regulator IC gives a constant 5v, just what we need for our gauges, so does anyone know what the capacitors are for??

Capacitors are most commonly used to smooth out the voltage peaks.

Yes I built that circuit to power my MAP sensor.

I installed it under the dash though so if I ever need it to power the instruments it is there handy already.

Capacitors smooth the voltage. Which you don't really need. The stock system was VERY rough but the gauges smooth themselves. So you could just use the transistor bit by itself.

However I would built the complete circuit as it does work very well indeed and a smooth voltage is better at the end of the day.
