Steering through sump

As I have a 6" deep pan front to back I am obviously having clearance issues......What are the pros and cons of putting a hole through the sump for the steering cross arm? The biggest Pro I can see is it means the engine will fit and I don't have to spent another $3000 getting a RHD alterkation kit done

Biggest Con is if the crank lets go and jams the steering.......

Adapting mine is my only real option as I have the oil splash system to take into account, and I've got 3 x /10 return pick ups already there.....As long as the crank throws don't cause an issue

go for the hole in sump kev
if an engine let go on a standard pan, if it was gonna lock yer steerin up no 1/8 thick pan would stop it anyway,

Kev, I am doing the old "drag link through the pan" bit with t'hemi - I never gave any thought about the crank jamming the steering.
If you think that way you would never get in a drage car. Oil on the tyres would be a much greater risk

So the biggest con is not likely to happen to my Bryant Billet crank, so that's a plan!

(Thanks for the encouragement, Dunc

)
Thanks for all the concern for the rusty old hulk, but it's MY rusty old hulk and it won't be rusting any further!

It's not really a problem Kev, apart from the pain in the arse removing the centre link to pull the engine or pan. The difficult bit is getting the right size hole in the right place so it clears at all times. You're in luck though, 'cos I know how you do it.....
