My evening ended on the back of a truck following a collapsed hydraulic lifter and scrubbed out cam shaft

All in all it was a good meeting, with nice weather and a good turnout. There were a few more cars that neither Simon nor I got any pictures of, mainly new Camaros.
My evening started out with a slight popping in the carb which I though was my seemingly incurable problem of the fuel boiling in the carb. But as it got progressively worse it was clear it wasn't that. There's no better place to break down than a pub full of car nuts, and within minutes both Kiwi and Nick Eagle (56 Chevy) were offering possible causes.
Big thanks to Wendy and Craig for using their AA recovery card to get me to Kiwi's. After a lengthy wait with Wendy giving the AA call center some much deserved ear-ole the truck deposited me and the General at Kiwi's place where we set too identifying the problem. Dropped Valves was a common theory going round the car park that night, but Nick Eagle suggested it's more likely a scrubbed out camshaft. Luckily for me he was right with a collapsed lifter to blame.
The silver lining to this particular cloud is that I have now ordered a Edelbrock Performer RPM camshaft and lifter kit along with new timing gears and chain. Hoping for good things from this as it is supposed to be ideally matched to my Performer RPM heads and inlet manifold. One thing though, through the course of phoning round trying to get said kit, opinions varied as to whether I needed adjustable or roller rockers to be able to use this camshaft. At present I have only the standard rockers.
I know roller rockers would be preferred but can I was this cam with standard set-up for the time being??? Any advice always welcome

That was unlucky phil, I drove home 35 miles last year with a collapsed lifter. Replaced the lot and no damage to the cam. I got lucky, I reckon!
