Non Mopar - Camaro poorly

My 88 2.8 Camaro has been poorly basically since I got it. I've changed so much and it's spent the last month getting dusty in the corner of my local garage as they have no clue

Spoke to someone today who suggested I get it recovered to a specialist who could plug in the diagnostics. Good idea if I can talk Green Flag into it.

So... I'm in North West Scotland. Is Rodley Motors my best, nearest, option?

Suggestions please friends. Using the Dart as a daily isn't a feasible option as it's too damn thirsty!!!

Thanks in advance

not sure of any specialists in north west scotland, try giving Dick a ring on 01670 787558 (RG Auto Specialist) only deals with Yanks. He's in Tritlington, between Alnwick and Morpeth. maybe too far to go, but might be able to help over the phone

Well........

When I got it the clutch was slipping and I thought a few service parts would be in order too.

After the clutch change I had all kinds of electrical issues including the alternator failing, coincidence? Maybe. The 2nd alternator works though.

The HT leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor, O2 sensor, engine temp sensor and ECM have all been changed and the dizzy has been rebuilt. The gearbox has been re-removed to check the wiring etc and nothing found so money wasted there.

The problem now is that it's overfueling to the point the oil in the sump was full of petrol. There was also fuel in the air intake so pretty much everywhere. It's that MPI setup, if it had a carb at least I'd know what was going on.

There was a wire going from the alternator to the EVAP system and this was removed by the electrician as it was a bodge job and shouldn't have been there. They have no idea and have relegated the car to being worked on in "spare time". Coz they are soooo busy changing brake pads etc. Blummin cheek.

So I thought if I could find someone who actually had half an idea, a full idea would be better, I might get it back on the road sooner.

Thanks Rebel, it's only 5 hours to Newcastle so do-able.

best thing to do mate is buy your own scanner, not that expensive, once you have the scanner it's easy to figure out what the problem is.

I have one of these, if you decide to get one just check it will work on that year car first though

http://www.elmelectronics.com/obdindex.html

these guys do the chips in most of the ODB and ODBII interfaces

if you know your ODB protocol check this

http://www.elmelectronics.com/obdindex.html

to find out which elm chip you need in the interface and buy one off ebay

if unsure any interafce using the elm 327 will probably work but as its the king of all interfaces and covers the most cars it will cost more

I can then do you a disk of programmes that can help

if i can find it.

you may need to get an adaptor for you OBD socket

this page indicates you need a device with an ELM 322 in it

http://www.elmelectronics.com/obdindex.html

however OBD only really satndardised in 1996

your car may be too old or have a bespoke interface
