Ivor's Shakey Report

Well, you can't blame the Duncan, Bri, Ray and the rest of the Crewe boys, for not risking Gary's Picnic this year, with forecasts of torrential rain, but true to form, the skies were blue and the sun shone on a great Saturday at Shakespeare County Raceway.
Mister Benn and I cruised up in air conditioned Jeep Super Cherokee Chief splendour to arrive and be met by a very strong MMA contingent, with Mopars in full force amongst the Fords, Chevys, Pontiacs, Altereds, Pops and everything in between including 4,400 lbs of Boat tailed Buick Riviera, pulling some incredible times and leaving cars half its wait for dead on the track, but that's enough ammunition for Sandy, let's get down to business!
The MMA crew well well represented and in no particular order, let's have a quick review of who was enjoying themselves on the Saturday.
I suppose the first mention must go to Kev, as this may be his last drag meeting in the UK, unles he makes the Nostalgia Nationals at the end of June, before he leaves for Oz.
But not having the cab proved no problem as the ever generous Budgie threw him the keys to his beautiful six pack Duster and said, sort that out son!
Jem's Fury looked great, in its sun bleached light blue paintwork and he had already got the beast down into the low 14 second bracket, before I left for home at around 6pm.
Pete Wiseman was having a great day in his primered Dart running the 500" Indy motor and was getting perilously close to the tens, until he noticed he was losing torque converter bolts!
Martin's yellow Sport Satellite was as consistent as ever running 13 fours on the nose and attracting the looks of potential buyers, as Martin looks forward to moving on to something new.
Blue's Dart looked superb with the new signwriting, in dazzling gold metalflake sorted out by Jeff, while erratic spark problems meant Philth decided to refrain from breaking the motor in his Challenger, to make sure he and his car got home under it's its own steam.
Steve Tufty Anderson decided to spectate at this meeting as running his black Dart at every meeting might mean he'd have to to sell his body to finance it!
Guy and Mary were spectating too, as project orange has a long way to go before that car hits the streets and thestrips...in fact, it was strange to beat Shakey and not see Guy and the yellow 'Cuda zipping up and down the pits.
Stu and Gareth were on hand, but without their Blue Barracuda, which is currently not feeling too chipper, but I'm sure they'll have that sorted and be outed and about soon.
Tig Napier's Challenger with the ally blocked (Keith Black?) Indy motor was going like an absolute rocket, still on leaf springs and Caltracs, until nasty noises started coming out of the front end...Tig thought it could be the gear drive losing teeth, so it was an early bath for him before he could rack up a nine!
Nick Wood was sporting a narrowed and braced 8 3/4" axle with a spool so he could get some decent slicks under the back end of his Road Runner and was running solid tens in the hot sunshine.
While we are talking Road Runners, Simon's Petty Blue stroker was puffing a bit of smoke on the last couple of runs, but was sounding pretty healthy, while Wendy's stroked Torino, was really running well too, the two cars running pretty close, before Simon lost a header collector bolt resulting in reports of engine parts strewn all over the track...gladly, they weren't parts of Simon's new engine.
We can't miss the men in black and Adam's Charger was well into the low elevens and sounding on very good form.
Mick's Black Road Runner not only looked sensational, but was getting some great 12 second runs in while Ian Z's Red Runner was incredibly quick, fully street driven and running elevens, if my memory serves me correctly.
Richard Maltman was on typical form, his 70 Coronet looking as good as ever, while living in the lap of luxury with his caravan and a fridge full of cold beer!
I'm sorry but I didn't catch the guy's name who was running the red Dart Swinger with the Indy motor, but that was another very quick car and beautifully prepared.
I'm sure someone with a notepad and pencil will provide an accurate report of the times run today, but I was having too much fun to start making notes.
Rather than the usual car shots, here are some shots of the scallywags enjoying themselves!
