Spotted a Holden Torana GTR in a magazine for sale. In Indonesia of all places!! All the add says is its a '71' or a '72 and its a 6 cylinder. Looks in fairley clean nick. The buyer's looking for about £1200 for it. Worth it?

Very much so.

I doubt it will be an XU-1, but the GTR's are getting very collectable.

will give you an idea

GTR $22-29K AUD if its a real 71 GTR

use the link to work out base model value before risking anything

now is it worth shipping here?

most definitly not if you want to sell it.!!!

look at the aussie chargers £4K-6K here thats it regardless. Most in the targeted audience want a LHD car with 7 litres to go fast down an airstrip. "A high performance sedan or coupe" as the aussies put it, doesn't get a look in

yes yes yes if you want a chevette like 3.3 litre hooning tool with previous!

face it

it will be a passenger car like ya dad had with a motor that pulls like a tractor to 3000 rpm. aussies don't mind that..... most in the UK would want a Mk 1 golf mk 3 cortina original shape cavalier etc etc

What do they know? :P

They also have the Hillman Imp in there and I always though that was a lovely little car. Not ugly at all.

It was "Sporty" (with tuning parts available) in the traditional British sort of way and with the best all round visibility of any car with a roof I have any driven.
OK so the engine had to come out now and again. But that was the easiest engine in the world to remove. :thumbright:

And the other drawback was that with two mates in the rear seat the front wheels didn't have enough weight on them to steer the car at speed.
But a paving stone or two in the front luggage space fixed that. :thumbright:

Great little car that I sold for a lot more than I paid for it.

Mind you I got it given for nowt. :thumbright:

yes they know nout but

UK site in theory illustrates the kind of attitude you come up against if you wanna sell it on

you need a special kinda guy who appreciates the drama of aussie production touring car racing to sell it to

or likes the

1 gear to tow the boat up the slip way
2nd and 3rd for that spell between idle and 2000 rpm
4th for everything else odd setup that the aussies liked in their family I6 powerd car

without the race presteige its just a fat chevette with a funny front and a big engine that you will have to wait 8 weeks to get parts for....unless you know what it is.

and i quite like them.....chargers are better mind

The UK classic car market is funny. They bang on about F1 and circuit racing yet when they get a chance to own something designed and built specifically for that purpose they don't want to know. Instead they buy something for too much money that doesn't go round corners. Or they buy a Jap car.

I don't know who it is who is responsible for designing those Aussie cars, but whoever it is he needs to sack the guide dog and get a better one, its eye sight is crap. :?
