I have a slight oil spray from bottom of dipstick tube when hot. Could the small sleeve which folds back as a seal be damaged & can i get a replacement? Thanks, Gerry

The first thing I would check is your PCV system Gerry, is it all working ok? Make sure that the one way valve isn't stuck.

Thanks Ivor, but what is a PCV system?

The PCV system vents crank case pressure and allows excess pressure to be vented off via the valve, into the induction system normally at the base of the carb. On a 318, the valve Ivor refers to will be in the centre of one of your rocker covers (on a big block it will be towards the back of a valve cover, normally the drivers side). Its basically a ball bearing with a pre-set poundage spring behind it. Pressure builds up, ball bearing pushed back as pressure overcomes spring poundage, and hey presto. Check the valve as if its blocked, the pressure will build and force oil out of the least restrictive orrifice, in your case, the dipstick tube.
