Paint Q?

I will be painting the wife's Chevette soon and she wants a Vauxhall Griffin ghosted in gold flip on the bonnet

. I'm not worried about spraying the pearl paint (my mate is a sprayer) but what would be the best/easieast way to mask it up? I was thinking of making a big stencil and drawing it on the bonnet, and going over that with edging tape. Does anyone know of another way to transfer a design onto bodywork before I embark on a mission and create more work than I need to.
Cheers

I would but I want to learn to do it myself, thats why its getting done on the Chevette and not something that matters.

I would have thought the easiest way to do it would be to get a sheet of that layout paper that has an adhesive backing, draw your thing on that, clag it to the bonnet and cut out the design with a scalpel....

I had thought of that, but what if I scratch down to the metal through the base coat and primers when cutting out the Griffin? Wouldn't that affect the life of the paint job? It would be a bit of a bummer if I get it looking good and have to do it again after 6 months.

If you cut into the underlying paint, you get a whole new set of problems. Some people can cut without damaging the base, some pre cut then lay down. I do both, really depends on job. If you need help, let me know.

Thanks Jeff

I thought cutting into the paint would be bad.
