After wiping a lobe on the ol' .509" cam at last years Nats Paul now has a .638" Barton custom grind nitrous cam installed. Recommended valve/piston clearance is 90-100 thou, but Paul only has 23 thou. Has anyone got a pair of them cutters that go in the head in place of the valve and cuts the piston with the head bolted on? (Before he takes his Dremel to the pistons!)

Kev i made a cutter from an old valve to sort out my rover lump , if we can find a valve i can grind it into a cutter for him . BUT it does seem like a lot to machie off this way .

Sounds like there's not a lot of choice, but without calculating it, that much might have a detrimental effect on the compression ratio? Or even affect the engine balance??

Buying another cam would work out cheaper by the time you have pulled the motor down and changed all the gaskets ......

I would be checking the piston crown thickness before hacking that much out of them as well, especially if it is going to be running sniff..
