The question was is it road legal? Without a tax disk, free or paid for, it isn't road legal, no two ways about it. I had this with the Satellite, it's only legal to drive it to and from a pre-arranged MOT until you have a tax disk. And they won't issue a tax disk until you have a UK registration number.

It isn't legal as it isn't insured for road use.

Insurance under the VIN is for off road use only.

If you insured the car when it arrived, you got 30 days of 'road' insurance to cover the car while it was being transported from the docks. If the 30 days elapses before you take it for its MoT the insurance reverts to off road/storage insurance. You need to contact the insurance company again to get a seven or fourteen day cover note for insurance to go for your MoT. This is the only time you have valid on road insurance for a car insured under its VIN, and then it is solely for the trip to the MoT station and home.

Thereafter, the car needs to be registered and issued with a UK plate. With the added use on ANPR, there is no way for the UK police and authorities to tell whether the car is legal and insured and taxed if the reg number does not show up on the UK database. If it doesn't, they may be more inclined to get heavy with you.

But, on another point, as you trundle along uninsured, unregistered and illegal, we could care less if you smacked into someone else, but woe betide you if you bring it to the Nats and smack your illegal and uninsured car into someone else's pride and MoPar joy. I suspect you would find yourself swinging from the finish line gantry by your todger.

If you hit another car while you're racing at the Pod you really do have a problem!!!

I think Sandy is referring to anywhere at the the Pod other than on the quarter mile, for which of course your insurance will cover you.
