I bought another one...

Some of you may know I have a '65 Dart GT, and may have seen it at the Euronats... I was in Simon's (Mitchville Autobodies) Workshop the other day. Someone poked their head in and asked if I owned the dart. I obviously said yes. He said would you like another one?

I didn't believe him at first, but after driving 5 minutes down the road and opening a garage, there in front of me I find a 65 dart GT. Not in fantastic shape but there all the same.

Should finalise everything this week and be making a little space in the workshop for the new arrival. Top guy who I've bought it off who has been very helpful and patient with me :thumbright:

I was lead to believe that my Dart was the only 65 GT in the country. So this poses my question - are there any more out there? Or do I now have the only 2 in the country????

Was your car the BB one with fenderwells.
The most sought after one is the D Dart.

No, mine was the one in the photo there - only running a slant 6 in it. I have plans for the new one tho.... Which incidentally has come with the slant 6 from the BB'd one. Not that it will be going back in it...

D Dart? Please explain - I may just be being a bit simple.

Ah gotcha - yes these ones are '65's not '66's. not got any photos of the new one - it looks a bit sad for itself. The shell is excellent, so good infact I think it's going to be dipped. Originally the plan was to break it for spares for the other one, but it's way too good for that and I have far too much conscience. Now I have had to change my plans...

Yeah! I had a look at that a couple of times straight 6 car, had a rock solid body, but every thing else was toast, he was going to use the body for historic racing but then sold it on eBay I think it was a light brown colour:thumbright:

Aye sounds like the same one. Planning a bit of a 60's super stock theme... It's going to be a long term project but will be nice to have the pair. Was going to V8 the white one but now I can leave it be and keep it fairly stock.

Will get some photos of it when I sort out collection and where the hell I'm going to put it!

The slant six that was in that car is with the one I'm buying. The guy who dropped the 440 in is just downt road from me - had a chat with him the other day about it. He may prove a useful contact whilst working on my dart... :thumbright:

The nostalgia look will really suit the Dart, and sorry to sound a bit like Tony O, but I'm glad you are leaving the white one stock, it's a really nice car!

More importantly, you'll get 20 to the gallon out of the leaning tower of power!

I think it will look top notch - just gonna have to take it one (baby) step at a time as money as always is not a bottomless pit!

As for the white one - there's a few things to be done. The slanty needs to come out as it is dropping so much oil now its not funny, and it just so happens that the engine that is coming with the other car is a more period (3 freeze plug) engine for the car. So it will be going off to the friendly engine builder to be refreshed ready to drop in.

The fabric roof is getting its coat, it's a pain in the arse to clean, its torn, and every time it gets damp it rucks up. So as I know a certain person who is quite handy with a spray gun, I'm intending to paint the roof a cherry red heavy metallic/metalflake to match the custom interior.

Wheels are still in debate... It could do with some wider boots as it is rather jittery as it is. I might keep my plans for them a secret for now tho...

Then maybe at the end of next year, I'll drop the screens out and sort out the rust thats just starting to make itself known under the rubbers, and treat it to a nice fresh coat of white.
