68 charger mirror fitment

hi all, got a passenger side mirror for my charger on friday, have read the thread on positioning, but does the self tapping screw thats supplied, just go into the door sheet metal, or should there be some kind of reinforcing plate needed? thanks, trev

Sheet metal, do not overtighten or it will pull the panel

The front edge of the mirror should have a threaded shaft attached to it, this is fixed by a flanged nut from inside the door, reached with door card removed and holding mirror through 1/4 light. The trailing edge of mirror is retained by self tapping countersunk screw.
By the way, its helluva alot better rear vision with that one fitted!
