How much horsepower/torque will an 8 3/4 take before it eats itself?

Ok
Completely stock 8.75.
Call it the large taper stem type.
No other mods but in top condition.
No NOS
Auto Trans.
Probably 600hp But you would be worrying about the UJ straps.

Normally aspirated. Gonna totally go through the Fury, starting from the rear end.
My plan is a 440/500 stroker eventually, so will a built axle cover it, or should i be looking at a Dana?

8.75 should be OK. But beef up the way the Uj connects to it. And fit strong UJs.
You might want to consider stronger axle shafts too.
Geof Hausers should have all the parts you need.
I am up to about 550hp and mine is completely stock. But I do worry it might let me down eventually.

Was definately thinking of stronger shafts ect, just didn't want to spend a lot on the rear end only for it to fail, and then have to buy a Dana.
8 3/4 it is then, cheers Dave

Vehicle weight and sticky tyres are the main factors.
"Big horsepower" meets "immovable object" is where the "hurt" happens.

Pete, you'd make a most excellent physics teacher. The best theory since er, the last one.

I'm a management consultant - I have loads of thoeries; many of which contradict eachother depending on the audience (and their gulibility)...

It's more weight and torque rather than horsepower that kills 8 3/4"'s. Personally, if I was building a heavy car with a shedload of torque, and I was going racing, I wouldn't be throwing any money at an 83/4". Given enough weight, torque, and a sticky track, there's nothing you can do to keep an 83/4" in one piece, it will break, it's just a question of when.....
