I am using an MSD 6 Digital in the Sox.
This has TINY Dill switches on it to set rev limits, etc

Due to the need to be able to access these switches, I am reluctant to mount the unit on the electronics panel that mounts to the passenger side floor.


I have been considering mounting the unit to tags on the rollcage above the passenger side seat. However, I am concerned about the length of the wiring from the MSD box to the other components - resistance, losses and potential interference. However, I want to keep the unit out of the engine bay.

Has anyone had any experience of this, and other options of where to mount the MSD unit for reasonably easy access and also reliability.

How about fixing it to inside of the glove box door if your door is the type that drops down. Removing the glove box liner for air circulation of course.

Good idea, Dave, but I am now running a fibre glass dash which is "solid" (if 2 layer glass ever is) and no glovebox.

I did think of mounting the MSD there but there is not a lot of structural rigidity there...

I did wonder if you you maybe were not using dash as such at all.

Still. Maybe put a shelf behind it and an access hole or hatch to access the little pots.

I am thinking that glove box sort of area in any case to allow maybe even the standard MSD extension cables to reach the distributor.

Pete, you can mount the unit further away than the wires allow if you need to - the MSD destructions just say to use 1 gauge heavier wire if you need to extend.

Not sure if there's a limit, though....

or get a big switch panel and solder flying leads to the back of the dil switch in the unit

loom it up, shrink wrap and mount new switch box where you like.

Swithes are integral and tiny, so no chance of intercepting them.

I thought the 7 had lots of features I did not need.

Whichever way you go pete , make sure you sheath the pickup wires & keep well away from any other looms/wires.

Hey , be careful with those soft touch dials , need a magnify glass to see em.

I mounted mine on the underside of the dash this probably wont suit if you have a fibreglass dash but i've not had any problems regarding length of wires, plenty of air flow to keep it cool and adjustment dials are easy to get to, only down side is its openly visible some people like to have them hidden away out of sight.
