whilst the old capri's up i the air getting its 727 rebuilt thought of changing the exhaust came to mind

have a dual 2 1/2" system with a 2 1/2" balanve pipe and twin 2 1/2" hedman turbu style mufflers

is it worth the effort to cahnge to an xpipe setup?

anyone know of any better freer flowing good mufflers?

would a change to a dual 3" system do anything?

360 sb, 2.02/1.6 valves, mild porting, 284 x 484 lift cam, single plane intake, 750 dp, headers, 6al ignition,

X pipe yes, 3" is probably overkill on a 360 (especially as the X pipe helps make best use of both pipes).

Dynomax mufflers are generally better regarded than Flowmasters, they certainly offer less back pressure.

i currently use no cross pipes, 3" pipes with moroso race mufflers, virtually straight thru !! sounds the dogs nads, whats the point of flow masters ? fine on a stock 'cruiser', but that capri aint no cruiser, if ya want a car to sound like a bruiser then go cherry bombs or moroso mufflers, no point carrying the weight of them huge great can things like most of tis lot do !!!!!

I got two 4 inch cherry bombs in mine. Now THAT sounds like WW3 when the throttle is stamped, and the overrun sounds like WW4.

Well I've got flowmasters on mine ( standard 2bbl 383 ) and they sound a bit loud to me. I'm thinking I may upset the neighbours when I leave for work at 5.45 on a sunday morning. Mind you I have nothing else to compare it too.

2 1/2" flowmasters on a big block should be enough to set off car alarms, mine do at about 1000 rpm. Too loud? whats that then??

James is right, driving 'Faf' is always accompanied by the delicate sound of car alarms being set off. Flowmasters are loud, very loud!

Reading this thread made me chuckle actually. When I got my charger MOT'd on a lovely Friday in Summer (it had been with RPM in Aldershot for weeks having her guts pulled out), I drove home round the M25 in heavy traffic (stop start) but the sun was shining and I was Sooooo happy. When the traffic stopped, I would wait when it moved on again in the middle lane until a big gap was there and just hoof it. The back end skatted all over the place and the noise was just phenomenal. Seeing the car sideways, hearing that screamy roar and seeing tyre smoke in my RV mirror was just brill.


That evening, I drove down to my brothers village and took him out for a spin. When I got back, half the village was in the road as they throught there had been an accident with all that noise. (the noise could be heard at the other end of Edenbridge high street which was about a mile). After they knew it was me, and after I had done it once or twice more over the next week, I was quitely told to stop or the police would be called.It wasnt anything to do with speed, it was the noise.

All this talk just makes me more and more determined to get my csr done right, and soon!!!!!

It isn't just the volume of Flowmasters, they have a lovely tone to them. The Cherry bombs tend to 'blat' and give you a headache after a while whereas the Flowmasters have a lovely resonance about them.
