been trying this out for the last few days, some beta version or the other

Also tried IE8 beta2.... what a damn waste of time that crap is... messes with the whole pc and worst of all for some strange reason 16 bit programs no longer work while 8 is installed

anyway decided to try google chrome as IE is sooooo damn slooooowww still a few bugs in the beta i'm trying but still better than IE

chrome is positively warp speed compared to IE

i've tried firefox and dont like it so chrome i'm sticking to

the point is why the hell cant old billy gates do anything that actually works right

and no I dont want a MAC thanks

I've been using Chrome for a few months. It's damn annoying that flash doesn't work but apart from that I really like it :)

I've been on Opera for years :thumbright: :thumbright:

firefox subsequently picked up most of the features and has a greater following (and therefore more websites work properly with it) but I like Opera and am still with it. Tried Chrome, not at all bad but VERY limited in its configuability. Not a problem if you don't want to mess with it, it seems good and like you say is still lightyears ahead of IE. I agree - what's up with IE?? It took them years to pick up some of the good Opera features (IE7), it is still bloatware, and still not as good as Opera (or Firefox). How difficult can it be - MS have a good track record at being woefully behind then bringing out something that corners the market (or buying the leader). But IE still hasn't done that.

finally figured out the pile of error messages after uninstalling IE8 B2

stupid rubbish leaves 2 reg keys behind with no values set... dig em out and delete

googles first attempt at a browser... fast light and works

microsofts 1000000 attempt and is even more crap than the last one

the definition of beta to everyone else but microsoft is "well it works, couple of little things to attend to but we're on it"

Microsofts definition of beta....... Beta not instal it cos it's crap and will Bananarama! up your pc, we know it will and have no idea how to fix it, now Bananarama! off and stop bothering us

How easy is it to change browsers? What about bookmark import etc.....

Very easy - just install the new one and there is normally a quick way to import the bookmarks. I do not bother uninstalling the old ones - esp IE since a) like many MS products it is pretty embedded, and b) there are still a few websites that only work properly with IE. Sad but true!

I did nothing when I installed chrome just hit the instal button

all bookmarks imported but in alphabetical order not the order from the other browser, easy enough to move anyway

if you leave whatever you use now as the default browser until you're sure then you have nothing to lose anyway

one thing I've noticed is typing into here comes up with some strange things, say I type a word then need to go back and correct it (add a letter say) all looks screwed up until I go back to the end with the cursor if that makes sense

what I mean is it's a bit funny moving words/letters over to the right after adding, I can live with that as it's beta

changed chrome to the default now, will soon remove IE I think

been doing some reading... apparently google is after doing something they call " Cloud "

from what I can gather this will be an internet based operating system with nothing on the actual PC

thats if I understood it right

they first need a browser with the capabilities to run it hence chrome

Cloud Computing has been talked about for ages, some more knowledgeable people on here might fill us in on the details but from what I've heard its bad news and you should stay clear.

mmmh, you've aroused my interest Neil, when I get a moment I'll give it a go on one of these PCs...then if it works out, see if they do a Mac version!
