Lots of functions on that box. :thumbright:

I take it the timing is locked out? , if so & you are using the start retard facility (25*) along with a crank trigger , just be sure to phase the rotor , problems can arise when the start retard pulls too much spark lead on start up & misfires to another terminal in the cap , can also happen when using a distributor without a crank trigger , CHECK THE ROTOR PHASING.

Whichever way you run the motor (boosted/nitrous/NA) , if using a crank trigger phase the rotor for highest rpm/cylinder pressures.............if the motor runs say 30* advance @ max RPM , then phase rotor for this timing figure , if using spray then phase for the maximum retard being pulled.

Look forward to seein the car Pete , glad it's coming along.

Remember you cant use a digital timing gun on the 7al Pete, the old dial gun is what you need. :thumbright:

Comp ratio should'nt be a problem for the starter to handle , spinning the motor with too much spark lead will cause the motor to kickback , smashing starter motor & ring gears , based on an initial/static of around 35* , would reckon on pulling around 20/25* spark lead on the 7al , hard to say till the motor is dialled in. If it were me i would install a kill switch to the msd (small red wire), crank the motor then hit the switch.

As Al says , good ole 'plain Jane' timing light , dial back guns get confused with the triple spark , ok over 3000rpm , but what use is that. :D

You can use the retard facility , good for around 25* of retard , any more than that the rotor can misfire if the phasing is off , been there & done it , not a pretty site , smashed ring lands & pinched rings.
