Advice, please, on front seat belts for my '69 Satellite. It has lap belts, but, I believe they are not suitable to pass an MOT. Ultimately, I will fit harnesses for the strip, but, for now need something road legal - any suggestions?

I think Lap belts will pass an MOT if correctly mounted and in good condition.

However, as I get older I question how well they will protect you in a shunt; and am of the opinion that you are better served by Lap belts.

I think there is provision for an upper bolt position that would support a diagonal belt or event inertia reels, which I have fitted in the past to Chargers.

What belts did you get for the Charger? Anything that could be found in a scrappy?

You can buy Britex kits, and I know Will Datsun used ones out of....a Datsun

Seat belt anchorage bolts are a universal size, so any thing will fit from that perspective.

Yes Pete, quite agree with your sentiments re: lack of protection with lap belts.

P G classics do a full new set,not cheap.

The aussies do a universal hardtop with bucket seat retractabale belt suitable for all no B pillar to the roof cars

i.e standard modern seat belt with drop link from the top mount so it doesn't hack at your neck in a car with a top mount in the roof side seam rather than on B pillar

you would ask for valiant charger belts..... but they get used in 2 door 70s holdens and fords as well as a replacement for the orginal fixed buckle belts.

retractor and bottom door side end can be bolted to the same mount if necessary, the bottom door end has a 3 inch metal extension on it to allow this kind of mounting in cars where the retractor unit was never fitted.

buckle (black with red button) is on the usual 70s style plastic coated steel rope with eyelet as per Mk3 ford cortina and are designed so you bolt the dirvers side one into the floor in the footwell of the rear passenger and vice versa, they cross over the tunnel when both in use if possible (if not you bolt them into the floor on the correct side and live with the length or put the mount further back). The thinking is its easier to weld on an approved mount to a floor pan rather than the curved inner of the transmission tunnel

Aussies (in some states at least) are hot on frayed and sun damaged belts so common to find universal fit for not a lotta cash belts should comply with ADRs (Aussie design rules) i.e Australian Standards classification for belts. Most aussie standards these days are the same as ISO or EU standards...although they still don't put fuses in their 3 pin plugs.

Securon's american website lists part number 500/45 for the charger.
I have a set of these which I'm going to try in my Charger hopefully today. Paid £28 + vat from local motorfactors.
