holley and auto kickdown

my 904 auto trans oftenkicks down from 3rd to 1st rather than 3 to 2. Happens under full throttle at about 40-50 mph. A bit too dramatic!
Secondly, on Holleys own site they say NEVER to use a 1850 carb with a Chrysler auto. Any connection?

Which Chrysler Auto? There are a few to choose from.

My throttle linkage is different to everyone elses maybe that is what they are refering to? I thought my kickdown was a bit strange but uncle Blue seemed to think it was ok, so I bow to his better judgement.

Yeah, I know but, what about the double downshift on kickdown bit? I could be accused of 'wanton and furious driving'!

Miles, do you have the correct Chrysler kick down linkage bracket for your Holley? It puts the horizontal pin (that goes through the slot in the kick down rod) in the right place.

Also, ensure that you have the correct linkage for your engine/trans/body combination - some are single rods, and some are 3 piece linkages, which are more adjustable.

Then, make sure that the linkage is attached correctly at the kick down lever on the trans, and adjust the threaded linkage rod(s) to factory specs.

The slotted rod should be held forward against the carb pin with a light spring, so that any throttle movement acts partially on the linkage, but the trans lever should not reach the end of it's travel until full throttle.

Miles, just in case you don't know, you have to align the bellcrank on the back of the motor with its bracket, using a 3/16" (I think) drill bit through the 3 holes, then adjust the 2 threaded rods to take up the slack.
