Gearbox to prop ?

Yes, I know this is all very silly questions but my logic is simple - rather than me break something getting it off, its better to ask a very simple question, look silly, but get the job done right... its a learning curve after all.
All linkages disconnected, cross member out, gearbox supported, prop supported etc etc. The only thing it is still joined to is the prop itself.
My question is "What holds the gearbox to the prop ?" - I cannot see anything obvious, and the new gearbox doesnt really hold any clues either - just the splined shaft with a notch for a seal.
Before I start whacking it with something can someone who actually knows offer some reassurance...
Ta muchly. I'm getting there !
Morgan.

It slides in on splines - that's how it takes up the movement of the suspension.

Cool. Thanks Pete (as ever).
Its my ambition to feel I make progress this weekend.
I'm off to give it a gentle tap...

Don't forget to undo the 4 small bolts that connect the rear of the prop to the diff. And, when you re affix it, dont overtorque those bolts.
also, mark your propp (paint) so you know which way to re affix it.

Ta-da ! !
Main prob was getting car high enough to get box out from under it.
Thanks for help - better to check than create myself more work to fix something I broke...
Bottom pic is just for inspiration. The old and the new.
Gonna start of scraping it all down now and finding the horrible bits under 40 years of gunge. Couple of bits need a weld - nothing awful. Just plan to freshen it up a bit before the new lump/box goes in.
Next stupid question coming soon.

Yup, Much happier now its all out and I can see what I've got. So far looks pretty good under there, better than I expected really.
Ex-pit lump still turning freely, so hopefully its extended rest will not have hurt it... Its awfully big though. You sure it'll fit ?

sure it will fit if you have trouble getting it in by normal means then the other way is to get a large crane lift the engine up to about 60ft push car under and make sure its lined up with engine bay and drop engine in ...................................................
simple !!!!!
oh yes and attend to minor damage after but make sure its not windy or you might miss !!!!!

It slides on splines providing a direct engagement, and it has a bush pressed into the end of the housing just inside the seal, lubed by spashes of trans fluid, for the yoke to rotate against.
Hence, "sliding yoke".
Jeez - what an effin' big 'ead!
