I am replacing the UJ's on the Greenfish racecar's propshaft for Turnip and a large lump of silicone fell out of the end.

Is there a proper blanking plug available?

pass on this one mr filthy man, ive just looked at a couple of props (not all mopar) some are cast with a blank end and others have a bung similar to a core plug. if you need it modifying and a bung made i can sort it for you no problem.

Phil, yes there is a plug in there, IIRC its like a soft metal plug. Mine was actually not properly seated and caused a leak from the box. I seated it and all was fine. So yes it should be sealed one way or another and you'll get a leak if it isn't........

It's like one of the old type dished core plugs,not our engine type. I've got some in various sizes up to around 1 1/2"

How much silicone can go in to 1 car

I think it may be sone sort of snap-plug, thin enough to snap onto the outer machined edges in front of the splines (which are not very deep at all!). Can't find a picture of one anywhere. I would have thought that the last 1/4" of the splines would have been factory-machined to accept a normal type core plug...

I am loathe to 'glue' that plug back into place, especially as it is on a race car (everyone hates oil-downs, right?!). I imagine any sort of adhesant would become unstuck at the introduction of that mysterious compound known as transmission fluid.

Time frame allowing I think I may take you up on that, Trev, but it depends on when John wants the prop back on the motor.

Have you considered giving Hausers a call?

Can you not weld a disc over it? Or would the heat effect the strength?

philth, if you can get it to me i can sort it within 48 hours. turnip wont need it till ive made his "brake thingys" so maybe drop it off and pick it all up when its done
