PUSHROD?

Took the mastercylinder off and bench bled it, put it on and bled the brakes again, took the car up the drive to test brakes, seem to be working ok, but the pedal goes down a long way before it does anything.
Gonna adjust the brake shoes up and see if that makes much difference.
Do you think the pushrod needs to be longer/shorter.

Pushrod length determins how high the pedal sits.
Piston diameter determins how much travel the pedal moves to apply the brakes.
Smaller piston = more movement but higher force applied.
Bigger piston = less movement but less force applied.
Most pistons are around one inch diameter.

It stops ok from 20mph up my drive, pedal just goes down further than im used to.
Will go for a road test down the lane on monday and see what its like.
Brought a new brake master cylinder and booster unit of a guy at the essex swap meet, so i will just have to get used to it or put the old manual one back on.
Will let you know how i get on next week.

Sounds like youve still some air in there somewhere Craig. Had a similar problem when i fitted a new Master Cylinder to mine. Kept bench bleeding mine till i had no bubbles coming through, thought, here we go it sorted. Fitted it on the car , and same as you loads of spongey travel before a decent pedal. Got a back bleeder from work and back bled the whole system back to front. Had no prob since. Good hard pedal. spot on brakes. In my opinion i would say its still got some air in somewhere.
