Nitrous install

I am using a separate 3 gall. cell for the nitrous fuel feed. I have a dedicated electronic fuel pump for this, as it will be used very occasionally, do I need to use the external filter I have? I will I get away without it? I have one of those Fram chrome and orange filters, just seems a bit of overkill! If I do use it, does it go before or after pump?

The cell has two outlets, I think 1 is the return, do I need to use this? Or can I just blank it off?

Filters go between tank and pump :thumbright:

I would run a return, as it is better than dead-heading with a regulator. However, the return usually goes in the top of the tank (new hole); so I would block the other off.

However, a "basic" install should work OK.

Thanks Pete,
I think it has a return hole on top of the cell. But where does the pipe come from to return any fuel?

From a port on the regulator.

Thanks Pete,
All I have to do now is find that damn regulator! I know I had one before the move, I can't remember if there was one when I got all the nitrous stuff! Organised as ever, eh?

Your obviously not working today then Jeff! :D

I have a spare new Holley regulator if needed.

Thanks Pete, I may take you up on that.

I know I have at least 1 new one, maybe 2! Going from our old place to this small rented one was a nightmare, I have stuff stashed all over the place. I can't find anything!

Work? what's that? I am in London, but not doing any work! Had a job yesterday. Front cover of the Guardian mag, and a DPS inside. £200! Bananarama! ridiculous!

If using a return line fit a .030" restrictor in it.

Good luck.

Started laying out all the parts this evening, need a few missing parts, will probably be asking you a few questions Adam! Connectors and adaptors mainly. Never used all this new fangled connections. Jubilee clips and bent screwdrivers in the past!

Right, managed to order some of the parts tonight. I now need parts to connect fuel cell to pump, and regulator to fuel cell.

First question is, what diameter hose should I use for these two connections?
Remember, this is NOT for a big shot of nitrous! Just a 100hp at most.

Next I need smaller connectors from the Cell, the ones on there are massive! How do I measure the ones on there? And can I get reducers? Or am I talking rubbish?

As all of this will be on show in the truck bed, I would kinda like to make a feature of it.

The best system I found was to run the engine IE carb as normal between 4 to 6 PSI with the normal mechanical fuel pump I used a Carter hi flow mechanical pump and a summit regulator with a filter just after the tank outlet.A standard pump will be fine.
The nitrous fuel is fed from the separate tank as you have proposed.
Don't bother with a return line its is just more expense and as you only run the nitrous pump for a short while and it will just run to a dead head when the fuel solenoid is not open and not do any harm.
Blank off one of the outlets from the bottom of the tank and run the other in 8 AN if you can afford it .
I ran 6 and it was OK for a 250 shot.
Run a short pipe around the tank to your electric pump mounted in the trunk, I used a red top Holly, then to a good free flowing filter.
Run the feed to the front out of the floor of the trunk, use an existing hole just push the rubber dough nut out.
The top outlet is an overflow/breather so run a short pipe from the top out through the floor of the trunk so you don't collect fumes in the trunk,
you can run the fuel out quickly and it can vac the tank otherwise.
Bring the main feed pipe under the car then up into the engine bay being care full not to get near any Headers.
Finish the main pipe run at another regulator bolted to a suitable bulkhead or inner wing.
The regulators have one inlet and two outlets so you can run a guage of the spare outlet in 3 AN.
I set the reg between 7 to 9 PSI for the Nos fuel, from the reg run a short pipe to a tee from which you adapt down to the 3 AN pipe which runs to the plate.
Fit a 7 PIS (real steel) pressure switch to the other tee out let and wire the signal wire that fires the main NOS solenoid via the pressure switch so that if the fuel runs out or the pump fails it will shut down the Nos solenoid instantly.
I also fitted two fuel pressure and one Nos guage at rear of the bonnet so you can monitor the two fuel pressures. Don't bring fuel at high pressure into the cab area (firebomb)
Fit the Nos bottle as near the front as possible, the shorter the pipe from the bottle to the plate the better.
If you fit it in the cab area you should fit a blow down tube to the bottle so if it vents it squirts the cryogenic (freeze your balls of fluid) out through a hole in the floor.
Hope this helps.
Don't forget you need to auto retard the engine when the Nos engages 2 degrees per 50 HP plus 2 degrees for safety.
IF your Adam forget safe :D
Hope this helps mate.

Yea right......... :D

Dedicated 6 AN fuel line to plate will be fine , gotta have a filter when running nitrous , those fitting can be reduced down to -6.

Don't wanna post too much info given the fact you used to run sniff , so don't know how much you've forgotten.
