Can anyone shed any light on this please.............
My wipers used to fold themselves neatly under the cowl of the bonnet when you turned them off after use,now when you turn them off they just sit on the screen in the position and not defalt to their 'hide away ' location.
They still work and otherwise seem fine ,as far as I can tell all wiring seems in place and have not been pulling anything around to warrent their change in attitude
..................any ideas?????????

There is a "Park" position, dictated by a cam in the wiper assembly; I think it works electrically as the circuit is broken on the copper conducting plate.

I have had it but never fixed it as I just turned the wipers off at the right time .

It is annoying, and I am sure someone has dealt with this before.

They often do this with age.

Just take the motor unit off the car and pull it apart. Then clean it all up.

Use a bit of wire wool on the copper contacts. Clean off all the old lube and put a little vasaline on the areas that rub.

The workshop manual has a series of tests you can do with it off the car (with some spare wire and a battery) to make sure it all works before you put it back on the car.

Mmmmm.............can see where you are coming from on that.
Was going to say ..'what do you need a manual for a woman for',but then perhaps they should come with a manual coz I'll be bananarama'd if I can figured mine out sometimes!!!!!!!!!!

........where do you connect the battery to ,and would you always bench test before installing?

My wipers used to do that, but I followed Dave's advice, cleaned the whole thing up, in particular the contacts and it worked perfectly afterwards...like Dave they get a bit cranky as they get older

Even newer cars have this problem.

The rear tailgate wiper on the Jeep I bought off Aussie Pete wasn't working at all! Quick clean up and it has worked perfectly ever since.
