Before I took the hood off to do a little modification it was pretty well lined up with the fenders. Not perfect but pretty close.

But after putting it back on it seems twisted or something?

What has gone wrong?

I didn't remove the hinges. Just the hood. I have got it correct front to back but it seems twisted in relation to the fenders.

If I adjust the fenders again to match the hood they will not line up with the doors which are fitted to line up with the sills and rear quarters.

Any tips on how to get this right??

Dave, hate to teach you to suck eggs but has it gone back in exactly the same position? I know hindsight is wonderful but when I have taken bonnets off I have marked where I can within fixing holes and round the hinges so they at least go back the same. which way is it twisted, front to back, side to side, diagonally?

It seems twisted diagonally even though front to rear line up.

Maybe I just need to bend the hinges over with a good shove?

Not a spacer or a washer put back on the wrong side / position? It is usually something really silly when this happens!

there should not be any spacers between the hinge and hood,BUT my orange chally has always had about an1/8 washer trapped between on both holes on the o.s hinge without it it runs to close all down one side,

Mine did the same Dave...had mine perfect but took the Hood off to pull the motor and i just cant get it back as it was even with all my markings lined up
And the Hood pins should help but dont

But it is better than yours though

Dave, Put some masking tape down the inner hood edges and the wings to protect the paint... it dont take many rubs to remove the paint

Got the same aerial ornament on my Truck supplied by Red Raven too

One way to check the lines of the car-bonnet ( this is a 2 handed job) is to release the bonnet from its hinges and just rest the bonnet on its rubbers. ( with out the tension of the hinges)

If the bonnet lines appear ok ( the pins should help this process) this often means while the bonnet is off the car the springs because of their tension often de-form the hinges just a little.
So its a patient case of slowly adjusting the hinges and the bonnet locating holes until things square up. But be careful of those wing edges re chipping the paint.

Well. I now think I know how to put this right.

If you loosen the bolts holding the hinges to the inner fender you can actually rotate them. So obviously if you rotate one forward and one back it causes the hood to skew one way or the other.

I think one of my hinges has rotated. However I have made matters worse by moving the wrong one first.

Problem now is I have messed about so much I have made matters more complicated to get right again. Getting it right by myself (with occasional help from Diana) is proving difficult. The weight of the hood is terrific and makes it bloody hard to adjust.

I was at it for a few hours this afternoon and packed in for my dinner. I am too knackered to go back to it now so I will have another go tomorrow.

Are you sure you havn't moved the latch at the front while the hood has been off. If you have and need to adjust it, take the grill off first so you can get to it if the hood won't open.

Removed the latch completely. It is the hinges for sure.

I can more or less force it into position. But it needs to drop into position.

I am getting there. Been on for hours this morning with it.

Hinge one side completely down. Hinge other side rotated up a bit.

I can get it closed now which is better. But the back edge on the passenger side refuses to sit down flush with the fender. I am going to remove the hinge on that side completely this afternoon and see if I can make it fit higher on the hood edge.

happens because the springs have sat in an untensioned state

usually they are tensioned with the hood down

no hood and they are relaxed

they take a day or two to get their "SET" again
