Heavy wheels & 60fts

Stoopid question time. :D

How much gain in the 60ft with lighter wheels?

Was using the black window steelies with slicks , these must weigh around 50lb with slick? , got hold of some centrelines which are half the weight , is there much advantage with lighter wheels?

Have also got rid of the steelies on the front & gone centrelines , also half the weight , could say i've lost around 80lb.

If it picks up some on the 60 then it's gotta be worth it?

Any thoughts?

Isn't reciprocal weight worth double? I'd say it's got to help, even if it's minuscule, it's worth doing. Good luck next week 8-)

Two heavy wheels is two heavy flywheels that need to start rotating from stationary,so if those "flywheels" are now lighter it will require less power to start them turning. Got to be worth something.

correct kev, it was a 1lbs off the wheels is worth 3 off the body- was the saying or so I can remember, so adam if youve lost a massive 80lbs off the wheels that worth up to 240lbs equiv, that why wilwood discs are so good as they may not stop you much better than drums but they are real light. The weld pro stars on my runner are really light for the size of them

Must admit i'd have expected a bigger improvement than their test suggests. Maybe a lighter car would show up a bigger difference?
I've heard for bikes (in roundy-round racing) 1lb off the wheels is worth at least 5lb off the sprung weight!

Good article , seems 80lb lighter will gain a tenth & pick up some mph , seems i might pick up a couple of tenths & gain around 3mph , gotta be worth it then. :thumbright:

Was told to bin these steel wheels long ago , should of listened to ya Bob. ;)

Thanks chaps. :thumbright:

This thread must off been like a magnet to ole Blue. :D :D

Diminishing returns but around the times we all run 100lbs = 1/10, reciprocal might be more.
