Seem to be losing a little bit of trans fluid from the output end of the box around the shaft, only seems to be when warm and driving though, nothing too major, so I am assuming the seal wants changing - is this going to be a nightmare or relatively easy ???

Also, I assume AQF fluid is best for 727's ???

Brake fluid, would DOT 3 be ok ? it does say synthetic based on the can ?? sorry to sound so dumb, cant think of the last car I had where you had to check about 10 different fluid levels every 10 mins !!!

Cheers Kev !! I did have a look around first, honest !! however, I must be truthfull and say that I didn't actually check the first thread on this board, which I find links to the old boards !!!

Thankyou . . . . . .

However, couldn't find any more info on changing that rear seal, so any tips would be appriciated !! (or the best place to get one?)

Pull prop, prize out old seal, clean housing, put a smear of oil on the new seal, find tube or large socket to fit outer of seal, whack in, re-fit prop, check oil, drive car :D

So what your saying Alex is - pull prop (drop on finger or toe) prize out old seal (in about 100 little bits with a face full of oil) smear oil (kick over oil can all over floor) find tube or socket to fit and whack in (cant find nuffin after spending 2 hours looking and doing 6 other jobs for the missus in the meantime! whack fingers more time than seal) re fit prop (cant get it in  ) check oil (to low haven't got anymore, shops are shut) drive car (discover another problem)

Only joking I am sure it will go much worse... i mean better than that :D

Cheers Alex, PS, quickest/easiest/cheapest place to get a new seal is_______ ?

You will get a sleeve full and a garage floor full of oil if you don't drain some fluid out first or catch it with a container. :)

Not if you jack the BACK of the car up you won't ! trust me!

The seal will come out in one bit it is steel ringed, post the dimensions of yours, I have one but there were/are two different sizes..

And try to get the Mopar Perf type one - it has a lip that not all aftermarket ones have.

Well, that little job didn't go to badly !! only an hour to take the old seal out, talk about tight . . . . and you are right, had the back end of the general way up in the air and no fluid on workshop floor or down sleeve - Hooray !!

Alex - Dimensions for you: metal sleeve diameter 63mm, depth of metal sleeve to flange 10-11mm

Numbers on flange: 7300-s

any good ???
