Didnt get to see much of the racing this time unfortunately so mostly pits & camp site pics this time. I'll leave the racing pics up to the likes of Dave & Latil jnr

Have to ask, what exactly did Romance of Rust 'do' to the Alchemist? I aint that iompressed with it to be honest. I did like the Chrysler Fire Power rocker cover top grafted into the side of the car but are you supposed to see the weld lines?


Even though I was on the rockin scene for a good while, I just dont ;'get' the hot rod culture thing. The whole hot rod thing didjnt really take off till the 50's and the kids were buying thirties cars and putting bigger motors in for pennies cos they were skint. Its all about pauperism, and the birds wore headscarfes tied in a not at the front cos they had rollers in i.e. they were about to go out. They didnt actually 'go out' with the rollers in n scarf on. Its like celebrating mundane humrum of the era. Maybe its me

Hey Clivey, i agree with you. We were talking about the same thing at the weekend about the way the girls dressed,kids think they know everything and know Bananarama! all.
The hole hot rod thing went up it's own arse,theres a boy up here that complained about big buck hot rods then goes out and buys two 97 carbs for $1000,because its period,what an arse hole!

I didn't think anyone would be with me on that. A whole lot of effort and fortunes spent to make the car look like scrapyard material. Then, jeans ten sizes too big, flat cap, and a bog chain in yer pocket and away we go

I think the whole rod scene these days is about how rough/illegal a car can be made and still run on the road. Running fenderless is totally illegal and there's plenty doing it,won't be long before some cyclist or whatever goes round with the tyres and it will all be under close scrutiny.

I love the Alchemist, best car there IMO. I don't really do hot rods, and I don't get the bare metal thing normally but that car is the exception, I really can't see how paint could improve it. The attention to detail and the sheer quality of the work is incredible. I spent a long time talking to Carl about it, really nice guy who I'd never met before, although surprisingly he knew who I was. The new metalwork will blend in with the old eventually, the dash top has the firepower emblems welded in and the whole lot nickel plated, it is seamless. Even every nut and bolt has been considered, most are aircraft fittings with castle nuts. You really need to see the interior and inside the boot to appreciate it, it's an absolute one off.

I quite like the Hot Rod cars (I would not own one, though); but I can't understand the "buy a rod and adopt a lifestyle" thing.

Harleys can be as bad, if not worse. Compulsory bad boy look (outlaw stockbroker) or a beard in which one can hide a badger..

I said to someone at the weekend that I could not own a Rod cos my turn-ups were too small (I am sure the Crewe mob can fit in a B1 Brian gag here...).

I DO think that's one very positive thing about the MMA.
As long as you have a passion for the cars then that's cool. No silly haircuts (for those of us who have hair ), no silly clothes; just do your thang and drive your car and enjoy. Simples.

Nice pics there, looks like Saturday was the best. Went down Sunday, got quite nippy sat in the stands. Cars were drifting away by dinnertime. Surprised at the amount of Brit bodied cars going down the strip, nice to see for a change. Big turnout of York cars aswell. With Clivey on the hot rod/rockin thing. Been involved with the rockin scene since the early 80s. Remember going to alldayers and weekenders back then with drag race t shirts on, brought over by friends in the states. No body batted an eyelid ,thought we were scruffy Northerners. Certainly the whole rod/gasser culture didnt even come into it then. Ho Hum.Still like to see the rods all the same. Agree Alchemist is one nice car.

Yes, it's a big inch (557?) wedge with a tunnel ram injection set up on alky.
Has only been in the country a few days, and lives in the land of Bentleys

not bad to be honest andy, only went to top of the pits on saturday when i signed on, on sat morn there was already 133 cars signed up to race and more were coming, top weekend tho something there for everyone
