I need to find out what to do about a pilot bearing on a manual conversion. The 360 I want to put into my converted Dart cam from an auto. The 318 I took out has a very thin bit of what looks suspiciously like pipe in the crank. I was thinking I would need to get the crank drilled and a bush made, but while looking about it looks like I need one of the needle bearings shown here(about halfway down the page):

but does anyone know if this is the same for a small block?

The one in the 318 crank doesn't look bronze, and I have no idea how it's going to come out in one piece either! Plus I've been getting some funny noises when I have the clutch in and the car in gear - I initially though it was jsut the release bearing but I think it may have been the pilot bearing cuase it never happened in neutral. And it looks like it's been spinning.

I'm happy to cut down the input shaft, but it may have been don already, as the hole on the 318 doesn't seem to be any deeper than the one on the 360

Mind you they've done a nice job if they have, looks quite tidy

I've got to rebuild the whole engine, so might as well get the best option.
