Im getting quite Clunk when I drop the Charger into reverse it does not sound so good, and a much lesser clunk when I drop it into drive.

Any idea's what could be causing this?

A worn diff or worn UJ will clonk like that. Also check rear trans mount and rear axle spring U bolts.

Is your tickover too high?

Yeh, I guess it is. Its sitting at about 900rpm. I did drop it to 700-800 it was still there, but not as vicious. :thumbright:

A high tickover and a bit of slack in a UJ will sound a bit dramatic, time to crawl underneath Trig and check it out!

Andy - I'm getting a heavy 'clunk' also when dropping in reverse or going up the gears when cruising. No clunk when changing and I'm on the throttle a bit. Had a look at this with Blue and it appears that I've got far too much slack than is healthy in the diff. Not too good for the UJ's either...

Mmmmm, well that would be annoying. Cheers for the heads up though, one more thing to check out tomorrow. :read2: :thumbright:

depends mate

all parts for your diff are availble.

my guess is its an open diff. if you can jack up one side and turn the wheel its open or a very very very worn LSD

in which case its probably backlash between ring and pinion

need new pinion bearings

if you are lucky it just a case of pulling to bits
keeping all parts in the same place
and putting two new bearings on the pinion

and the centre while you are at it

go too long and you will nack the ring gear

Me too - since new gearbox always had heavy clunk when 'cruising' - will clunk on the upshift (but doesnt do it under load - smooth as you like when accelerating hard/moderately).
Ah well. Add it to the list. I didnt think it would be the box...

Andy, as the guys say, any of the above. However, do just check the trans mount. If it is worn it can allow the trans/engine to move backwards a touch.
I had that one too..as well as worn diif and crap UJs :?
