Does anyone know if there are any clearance issues fitting a 727 in an early A body ? The length is not an issue as i need a new prop for the axle swap, its the width i am worried about.
thanks, Mike

Mike, my understanding is that it does fit. However may need to slightly alter the spot-welded flange around the inside of the trans tunnel where to firewall joints to the floor section.
I will be finding out for myself in a week or two so will let you know

Might be worth a search thru 'ForAbodiesonly', heaps of good advice on there.
I had a 727 in my ' Dart, but not sure if that helps

Mike is there any reason that you want to go 727 eg bigger engine the 904 a good box and if you are staying with the original engine thays alot of work for nothing. Kevs Brisbaine Taxi Had a old 904 of mine that Blue rebuilt when it run its 11 second pass and I had that box behing my 340 with no problems

Dusty, I wasn't being sarky. I posted at the same time as you. Either way, anyone running an A body can get excellent advice on that site. There is even a separate section for 'older' A bodies.

No worries Miles

You are absolutley rigtht tho, there is a section of older A Bodies which is exactly where I have gained a lot of info for our project.
As Dave rightly says, its probably easier to fit a 904 unless there is a specific reason to fit the 727
Mike, if you are going from /6 to SB there are a couple of other things you need to consider. If you are just going from 904 to 727 then it should just be the firewall - floor flange that I mention.

Thanks guys, i checked out for a bodies only first before here and couldnot find any help.
Dave, i am going to build a stroker 360 in the long term and have been offered a 727 at a good price, so i figured since i want to ditch to cable shift 904 , i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak.
incidently i am in Barcelona all this week (maybe longer if the ash falls!)
how far is that from you ?

Hi Mike thats about 300 miles from me and it would have been good to see you. I have had to come back to England this week as my dad died on Monday so I will be hear for the next couple of weeks. He would have been 89 this year but he had been dead in his mind for the last two years so we really lost him two years ago.

Hi Mike,
Sad news that Dave, best wishes to you and your family.
Saw the Cuda on the banking at Brooky Mike, didn't get a chance to chat, good luck with the build.
Always a difficult choice the 904/727 route, but the 727 will win out every time in my vote.
Many more 727 performance parts in the UK and deffo stronger allround!
If you need an 8-3/4 done anytime give me a call.
Blown 360 is a better idea than a stroker LOL!
bacca.
