Hi All,
Thought I would start a new thread on the Cuda, as the old one seems to have lost a lot of the detail, photos, etc. I know my car doesn’t appeal to the purists, but I hope the track brigade will appreciate.

So here goes . . . .

I have decided to abandon the previous Supercharged combo & switch to Twin Turbos.

Still collecting parts at the moment, some I will be hopefully collecting in the next couple of weeks, some have been delivered to home, but as usual, I'm away, so yet too see them myself.

I will post a few pictures as the rebuild progresses, motor is in pieces at the moment, as waiting on new Pistons n Rings. Needed to change as I melted a few, from when I screwed up running the motor too lean Pretty luck really, could of been a lot worse.






New pistons will have the skirt area beefed upped to cope with the planned higher HP, also different ring material.(Will still need to get the A/F right though)

Still staying with EFI (Bigstuff3) although trying different injectors this time (Atomizers) & increased size to 225cc-Min/21.5Lb's/hour. Along with new inlet manifold, throttle body, cam & valve Spring change. To help keep the temps down, will also be installing Air to Water Inter cooler . . .


For what was meant to be a quick swap from Blown to Turbos, things soon escalate.

I thought the blower was a big lump, but never realised how heavy Turbos are !! my 88’s are not massive, even modified they weigh 57Lb’s each, previously 65Lb’s each.

Thats about it for now, will post a few updates as things progress

I'm looking forward to this build.
Time to show my ignorance - is that a GM transmission? Converter looks quite big relative to the case...........my last one in the 727 looked like a cotton reel

think its a glide pete and probably one of them bolt together verters,

good luck mark, you just keep working your knackers off at various locations around the world............ drop the cuda at jon websters and let him build this start to finish and get it on piston heads as another mega build project,

dollar wont be an issue

Yes, Its a Powerglide, with a Neal Chance Converter

Have to work hard mate, to make sure that dollars wont be an issue

Plus hoping to retire in approx 3 years time

All I can remember is that the rings I was advised & specified are Nitrided tool steel.

On the basis, Turbo motors make loads of heat & therefore the need for a piston rings that can transmit heat effectively to the cylinder wall, reducing the risk overheating the piston. Stainless was not considered as it conducts considerably less heat,tendency to shrink when hot & loose tension

Mark, all I know is that Dave Wilson uses them with a tool steel top ring and nitro motors make a lot of heat also.

I know I'm not one of the 'track brigade' but I wouldnt call meself a 'purist' either but your cuda was my fave car within the club Mark, and I'm sure it will still be when you've done this little mod

Wow! It was already one of the best cars in the club Mark. With those turbos you are going to have more power than you can shake a stick at!!

Are you putting oil sprays on the bottom of the pistons ? it will help cool them down a bit .

No progress as such, but nice to get home & see some bits

1) AMS 1000 - Boost Controller



2) TIAL Waste gates & BOV's



3) WERX Scavenger Pump



4) Billett 225 Injectors



Turbos are now built & will be shipped to my mate next week

Manifold should be finished in another week to 10 days

Inter cooler is at my mates place in the states already, assuming Manifold is not late, should have it all at home within the next 2 weeks
