nats show/race reports

Here my angle on it, went there with one goal a 9!
Last 2 yrs, jerry smith then me have not been able to run car on sat night in the cool air, jerry had the box slipping then last yr I got a puncture just as it was getting to the right time
Gate party as usual was just a complete pee up & having not seen most for a year had some good crack but made a complete pig of my self then regretted it in the morning.
Run 1
Having not raced for a year forgot what a 1.4-1.5 60ft time hits you like & knocked car into 2nd to early, car was also missing badly 10.5
Investigation revealed in my hung-over state I forgot to fit the race plugs in her
After another poor run with it missing a bit, adjusted floats in carb & up'ed fuel pressure
Bingo now running strong & 10.3's were easy
Just so happened sir budge had a 10.3 nova ..........
So 1/2 hour later we were side by side, I just got the jump on him, he got a bit sideways but we both ran same 60ft times, all the way down the track we were watching each other with me pressing the 'go' pedal even harder than normal,I had to beat budge.
Got him by 1/2 a car length, 10.4 @ 130 vs 10.5 @ 131 if I remember.
Best race of the weekend for me buy far but know where near a 9
luckily for me, but not for jerry, his ram had bust so wasn't coming to the nats so marc asked george chiles (cheers jerry & george)to bring his 1450 domintor down for sat morning.
One of the high lights of the weekend was getting a lift in a real hemi gtx on the cruise
Friday night was good crack @ the bar catching up with everyone
saturday
1450 carb on (cheers marc for the help)& ran a ...................10.3 no !!!
but luckily noticed the cable mount on the carb had moved so shed wasnt getting all the beans.
Next run ......bang 1/2 down the track & was told big ball of flames under the car.Really though something bad had happened but luckily only the fuse for msd had blown & the bang was just all the unburnt petrol
Car was now running real strong 10.08-10.15 but still no 9
Now I started taking bits off the car including bonnet (think this just give me a fright putting petrol all over the screen ) but still no 9
KOS was 9.96 with nicks' surry muscle roadrunner so wasnt that far away
Checking/asking about cars that did high 9's I realized im probably missing out by doing 1.52 60 ft times, on luach the car was really violent & bouncing in the air ( Have been told all 4 off the floor ??) so decided to had a fiddle with the caltracs/shocks after advise off dav B, (cheers dave)
But couldn't do another run as the wheelie competition was about to begin....so entered that for a free run, no queuing & a bit of a laugh.
The launch was exactly what I wanted wasnt going to win wheelie comp but loads smoother & 1.47 ft time but still no 9 (10.06)
Car was getting really difficult to push down fire up lane so did 1 more run 10.08.
Drivers back wheel was solid, pad had feel off caliper was was wedged
the wheel bearing & retainer had moved down the 1/2 shaft & the rear caliper was all that was stopping the shaft from coming out off the axle !! what if I had still had drums on the back ??
So just put the car back together & gave up for another year, 9 till 9 on saturday was like a hard days work, but I still enjoyed all the buzz that day
Lots of pints & chat mad sat night fun again, as said in other posts its the people that make events like this so special.
Sunday
Sunday was completely different for me racer now turned show & shiner, I wanted to put the car in the show area but had no brake pedal as couldnt get rear caliper back on due to damaged bearing so slowly drove car to show area.
Fav cars were the petty bird just because it was some sight to behold, 'the driven from germany on 4.10's' plum crazy bee & the plain jane green hemi gtx.
Enjoyed watching the racing on sunday & was over the moon to retain the paul worrow trophy, more so as I didn't trealizee that it had to be returned each year so obviouslydidn'tt have it with me.
Thinking all the action was over id offered to give our american mma member drew crane + other half ( sorry forgot name all ready :oops:Lisa ? )a lift up as dave robson only had one spare seat in his 'plastic pig'
Not one but 2 trailer puncturess (& yes had checked tyres pressures before hand) just topped off my event full weekend
What a great weekend despite all the ups & downs for me, just added to theexcitementt
Most ive ever written since school & best weekend for a long time
