looking for pros and cons of power versus manual steering. I'm thinking of just junking the whole power steering and converting to manual.
Whats involved? is it worth it in the long run (I've never driven a manual steering yank) but after this weeks antics with my power box, I'm seriously considering converting to manual.
TIA for all opinions and advice

Don't you need a "Manual Steering" column?
I'm unsure on that one, but I thought the shafts were a different length
I could be wrong

The manual shaft is longer but you just use one of the available adapters or the more expensive Flaming River part that also replaces the awful stock joint with a decent universal joint.
You will have more turns lock to lock with manual steering.

....and will be harder to turn, but will be cheaper on power steering fluid.

The manual box is much lighter weightwise but heavier on the arms when parking.
Manual is much better at speeds over 30 than a power box
and also drains no power from the engine
as said you will need a steering shaft adapter
Depends what your requirements are Rebel

The caster angles are also different for manual cars typically if you have 3 deg of caster for a power steering car then it will be reduced to half that for a manual car.

You would probably not get 3 degrees with the stock set-up anyway Bob.
Always best to get as much caster as you can on a stock setup as you lose some when you put a touch of neg camber in.
