Oh the difference

Fed up with the play in the mopar steering Joint I eventually with help from Paul got around to fitting the Flaming River Stainless UJ today....
We didnt even need to use their extension shaft in the kit, bit of careful measuring, removal of the steering column and cutting and grinding flats onto the original shaft...job done, no play and what a difference to the steering.
Relatively easy to fit, just measure 2 or 3 time before cutting
and a couple of trial column refits to make sure...and "Jobs a Goodun"
This something i wish i had done earlier
Just feels so much better, cheers for the help, especially in the rain Paul

Heres a few pics taken when it eventually stop raining yesterday
If Dave puts up a picture of his install, you will see that i did not have to use the extension shaft as mine had been modified before by me many years ago, and the shaft was so close, we only had to put 2 flats on the shaft so it could slip over the New coupling, and then cut off about an inch so that the shaft would not obstruct the UJs operation in anyway, not that it would, as the shaft is so straight on to the steering box it will never be at any acute angle to bind it.
Hope the pics help
Definately worthwhile

nice to you have to cut or remove the tee from the end,
and drill small indentations in the rod for the set screws right?
fairly simple to do?

I'm gonna get one on order I think, anything that makes my steering feel better is very welcomed

Drew that T at the end is tool steel and will not punch out as they suggest in the fitting instructions...we tried it on the 71 Cuda conv and that Bananarama! would not come out ....bordering on destruction of the shaft
But as the extension shaft in the kit is so long you could cut the shaft just below the T or do as we did, as we did not use that shaft.... grind it down to make the flats to fit into the coupler.
Yes dimple the shaft with a 1/4" drill bit for the set screws and thread lock...
Dont worry it wont go anywhere even if they all fell out due to the D shape of the shaft and then shoulders as the shaft is then round it cant go up towards the wheel.
going down towards the box...the only thing that could help would be a separate locking collar just below the coupler at the end of the splines near the steering box end, or maybe just a pin below the splines there....then it couldnt go down either if they all fell out.
dont think it would separate if all the screws fell out (unlikely) as when it hit the box it is still just making connection albeit only by about 5 mm
Whatever its a thousand times better than the Mopar coupler
