Hi guys
Question for you manual experts. I have a 318 Charger with a 3spd manual and want to change it for a 4spd. I have the 4spd and Smblock bellhousing, but do I need a different clutch release fork for the 4spd or is the 3spd one the same? Also anyone know if I'll need a different prop'.

Just trying to get all the parts together before I take it all apart.

You may need a new bellhousing as well because 3 speed and 4 speed transmissions have different bolt patterns. Some bellhousings will take both, but you need to check what you have.

Just re-read your post and I see you have the bellhousing that goes with the 4 speed.

The clutch fork may or may not be the right length but they are so easy to modify its no prob.
Have a look on the Brewers Performance website and look at the forks listed on there. They have images of the forks which show lengths and the body styles they're for.
If you need one you'll get one from Dunc, he's got loads of stock usually

As for the prop length you're gonba have to measure the overall length of the trans and b/housing and see how it compares to the 3 speed unit, but I am sure the output shaft on a 3sp is the same as a 4.

When i put the 4 spd in mine i found lots of research helped a bit but it really comes down to trial and error. There's that many possible combinations of clutch fork, Z bar, pushrods, etc...

I'll get this stuff back to Dunc as soon as i can just in case!

I thought fork and its mount were dictated by the bellhousing

the clutch rod should be parrallel with the chassis rail

if your new bell and old bell are nominally the same size/dimensions fore/aft may differ due to input shaft length but the rest the same??

think you will be fine

a 318 bell is a 318 bell housing i would have thought same clutch and flywheel size innit unless it came off a truck.

The fork length is different, its dictated by the Z bar length and the position of the operating levers, most every model is different in some way, Pauls right do ya research by looking at Brewers or Passon websites
