Cheers Dave, I figure the Gladiator III deserves something better than a tuned 413! But I want to do it right. smell the fear when it fires

Let me start off by saying I have zero experience of blown nitro burners! The first thing that comes to mind though is the 440's achilles heel, the thin webbing around the main journals, cracking tends to happen here at 700 hp or so, cap walk is also a problem with the mains only being 2 bolt. Most high output big blocks are based on the 400 block as the webs are thicker, this does nothing to solve the caps walking though. I guess what I'm saying is the kind of power you'd make (1000+?) a stock block wouldn't hold up for long.

I don't think I have EVER seen a blown fuel 383-440 wedge?

Message recieved and understood Blue, Dave Euro Sting had a 440, but that was of course a Hemi, sounds like a bit of a challenge!!!
Ho Hum, back to the drawing board. What about Methanol? or will that create the same problems?

In the old days they used to use the 392and 354 Hemi's with Nitro, I don't think they used anywhere near the modern 90% mark though.
Maybe you should run it in on alcohol first then think about it?
If you go the Nitro route you don't want any more than about 6:1 as the measured comp ratio and you want slightly dished pistons. With Alky you will get away with a higher comp ratio but be careful with the blower.
There is a guy at work who is quite versed in this sort of silliness, I will ask him tomorrow.
Personally if you are going to go to all that trouble I'd get a purpose built Keith Black.

Have you tried BJ Nostalgia. Bill used to run Nitro Hemi Funny cars. Sure he can give you some advice. If I were me I'd go the Chevy small block route.....

Cheers Kev
Been talking to Bill a lot lately, he is coming to see me soon for a chassis session with Mark Norton, may be a good time to pick his brain, as for chevy, its been done and I really want to build a mopar flopper.
See you at the Nats, is the taxi repaired and ready? which day will the glove box door be coming off?

Axle still out, Gear box in a million bits, carb stripped and on the bench. Of course I'll be at the Nats!

It wouldn't be the Nats without a bit of a rush beforehand! Glove box door will be off on Saturday....

The BCR, caps and the Chenoweth girdle will stop that cap walk and help reinforce the bottom end.
And I think you find they had no idea what the Nitro % was, it was more and more, til they could 'nt keep the heads on.
