Either white on black or body-colour (burgundy) on white
Possibly summat funny/ clever above/ below...?
Oh, and where's cheap to get 'em made?

Just get white letters on a black background.
That way your car is as legal as possible and you won't look like a pratt.

I fitted black and white States Plates to the Challenger Paul, this is what they looked like. (I opted not to have the white outline around the plates as I thought it would be more in keeping with the all black car).

I do like the States plates ones, white on black or black on white look good.
They're more than double the price of the ally ones tho

You're only going to buy them once Paul but you'll look at them every time you look at the car?

I like the black background pressed aluminium with silver letters. I went down the road of original looking, legal (size anyway as no suppliers details visible!) and would probably be what would have been on car if registered new in this country.

Hi Paul
We've gone both routes for our Polara and the black/silver ally plate route for the Satellite.
Initiallly, I got a set of the black & silver ally plates for the Polara from Halfords, and managed to get the smaller, motorbike size.
Remember, if you dont have room to fit a standard size plate cos of the size of the recess in the bumper, you're allowed to fit a smaller plate as long as it has the correct size & shape lettering, as used on bike plates.
So dont be put off by the large size of the old English style as you should be able to fit the smaller size, legally
Then soon after, we got a set of the 'states plates' style from
http://www.platemyride.com/ as they did the black California style that our car originally had and at the time, 'states plates' didnt do that style and didnt do online ordering.
Since then tho, states plates they'be increased their range and have a good online ordering system.
So to quote Ian Fletcher, Head of Deliverance for London 2012, "it's all good"

I'm sure I read on the DVLA website that pre 72 vehicles only had to display "clearly legible" plates in white or grey on black. Perhaps Matt can advise?
In any case I have some US style white on black ones from States Plates, and also a set of full size pressed aluminium plates, which I swap about as the mood takes me. Got the latter at the Euro Nats a couple of years ago.

States Plates are the only ones that look "right" to me.

Here are the plates on my Polara from Craigsplates. About £25 for the pair if I remember correctly and fast delivery! Not to everyones taste but think they look pretty original looking on my particular style of car...
Cheers Steve
