The sun came out again this year complete with his hat and toys so I went for a drive but first I gave the Demon the usual wipe over with TLC but got to thinking, how can I keep the hood scoops from getting shiny I dont polish the black paint but even wiping it over has given the surface a smooth and shiny look. It is also now a bit blotchy (sounds worse than it is) but I rember seeing the car for the first time and the glossy metalic plum crazy against the flat jet black scoops looked superb . Any tips?

Hi James, great colour!! Scoops look really good! Have you tried washing up liquid maybe?? Sort of a mild degreaser so may get it back to matt. If it doesnt it wont do any harm to the finish.

Hi Steve, cheers, I love the purple. I'd be fibbing if I didn't admit that it was one of the main factors when I first saw it . Hmmmm washing up liquid, is that the fruity smelling shower gell type stuff under the kitchen sink If I get cuaght using that, Wendy will realise that I DO know what it does and make me use it I'll wait till the coast is clear and give it a try

Im the same with tea towels mate!!! Im forever nicking them to dry the car then sneaking them into the dirty washing! Mrs got me a set of 4 for my birthday but just not the same as pinching them!

James, is that paint supposed to be flat or is it Organosol ? If it's the the latter it won't look perfectly flat and it will most likely have some surface texture.

You could try Cockpit cleaner on it. I use this on the plastic/vinyl parts of my Corvette interior and it has a matt finish unlike silicon based vinyl cleaners that leave a horrible shiney finish that makes the plastic look even more like plastic.
I think it might work a treat on your matt black paint. Available from Halfords.

What a bout the "back to black" type plastic bumper cleaners, I've had good results with them.

Don't get cockpit cleaner confused with Cockpit shine BTW or you will regret it

If memory serves me right the one I used was only shiny if you buffed it up, not if you just applied it and left it.
