Not to be confused with the street of expensive London tailors… this is the other type of Saville Row...

There once was a man from Leeds,
Who had certain sexual needs
Disguised in a mask
He’d approach kids and ask
What’s uncle Jimmy got for you in his jeans?

Aledgedly.

I met the guy once and having observed first hand what he was like around young ladies (in particular my mate's girlfriend), I am not surprised about the rumours that are circulating..........

I have to say, I find the whole episode massively disturbing, disappointing and upsetting. Jimmy was one of my childhood heros, and as I got older the work he did for Stoke Mandeville sealed his reputation as a 'knight in shining armour' type. He always came accross as a decent, all round nice bloke. This latest revelation has, for me, left a big black mark on my perception of celebrities who are renowned for their charitable work, and their on-screen persona for being 'nice people'. How easy is it to spot a 'front'?

I have to say again, I am really disappointed by it. I don't understand why it all comes out a year after his death when it has been alledgedly been going on for 3-4 decades. Who keeps their trap shut for that long? How was it covered up if Gambaccini and others knew / suspected he was a predatory type? Shame on them.

Who's next? Cliff?

I never liked him. He always gave me the creeps.

Did you ever see that Louis Theroux documentary on him? He came over as a man with things to hide.

But any bloke that lives with his mother all his life and worships her like a goddess like he did has got to be a little strange I guess.

Leave it out Dave man, thats well off the mark. Living at home + worshipping mother = wants to bone kids? No way. Its odd, but you cant suggest there is a correlation.

He was eccentric - but then so are loads of other people but that doesnt make em nonces. I think the point is, you just cant tell who is, and who isnt a nonce these days. I have to admit, Sir Jimmy was the last person I would have thought was a kiddly fiddler because of what he did for sick children. Now it would appear that his 'good deeds' MAY have been him practicing the art of misdirection. I hope there is nothing sinister to all this but I cant help feeling there is.

When I was a nipper, I thought his first name actually was 'Jim'll'. As in Jim'll Fix It. It was essential Saturday evening viewing. I wrote in a number of times. Mainly asking for him to 'Fix It' for me to meet people from Star Wars n all that. I really wanted a badge, and I loved it when the celebs had a special gift for the kid at the end after the footage had been shown. It was a big part of growing up for many kids my age. Getting bummed wasn't even on the radar.

Unlike Clivey Dave i think it has a certain kinship to weirdness and the sort of things it leads to
Like putting your mother on a pedestal.....so other women are unapproachable in a normal fashion.....leaving Kids as prey = Norman Bates ....only worse, much worse

he was eccentric Dave, shouldn't be confused with these latest allegations

I’m with Clivey and Dunc here, I am truly shocked, if people did know about it, they should have addressed it years ago, keeping quiet is as bad as the allegation itself :(

Exactly Si. If the allegations have some basis in fact, there MUST be people who worked with him that either knew, or suspected him of such deplorable behaviour. Why was it not until 2007 that the Police got involved. Someone should have raised the alert.

Looking forward to seeing the documentary tonight. I'm sure it wont be pleasant. Irrespective of the outxcome, it is bad form to get all the dirty washing out after he died. He can't be called to account, or to explain himself which is unacceptable.

I must say I never liked him,he had that patronising, slimy persona that often goes with these paedo types. We have someone here where I work, just the same,a bible basher that was giving "bible lessons "to young kids on a one to one basis at his home,it was stopped by his church before things started. Unfortuately one of his friends is a convicted rapist and sex offender. Difficult to stereotype these people but there are many characteristics which pop up time after time, living with mum unmarried or in a relationship is one, touching and coming ever closer whilst speaking are others.

Come off it Ste. Thats like saying anyone with a greasy comb-over and national health glasses is a nonce. Social ineptitude / awkwardness does not a paedo make.

Some terrible generalisations being suggested here
