Only thing I remember about an Aus 318 is the oil filter is up top behind the inlet manifold

yes i have heard that in theory they have slightly higher CR until mid 70s
same engine with an adaptor for the oil filter for RHD
the same for the hemi 6 high CR until 73 74
think it was a combo of piston and deck height rather than any special head casting
an aussie engine will have fuel pump carb and alternator made by a company call EMAIL ltd pump and carb under licence from Carter and alternator under licence from prestolite
once the Electronic lean burn system came out both got a slight drop in CR
i'd guess they didn't have the same environmental and smog concerns as the US did as early in the 70s
they also had a range of steel crank 340s
the same can be said of the ford engines... either the clevaland or windsor from aus is considered to have HI CR heads not sure which

If I remember correctly the Aussie 318 blocks had the engine number stamped in a different place to the US ones. US at the front of the engine block under the left hand head, vertical surface.
Aussie blocks had nothing stamped here, look on the horizontal surface at the back of the block above the starter motor (or where it fits if not bolted to a transmission). Rear left hand side on the block.
Can check mine or see if I have any pictures here on work laptop.

This is an Aussie 340, as far as I know the Aussie V8s had their numbers stamped here.... at least from the VG onwards (1970).

You may find the head numbers are 2843675.
That is what mine are.
They are standard heads as far as I know.... But I guess you could cc them up to see if you still have the valves in them. I have read a few things where these were mentioned to be about 60cc if I remember correctly, but nothing I took as gospel.
This may help with casting numbers.

This may help with Aussie engine numbers if that is what you have.
