My new Boss

I’ve just bought a new Mustang Boss 302. I only got the car a couple of weeks ago and I just love it.
Here’s a photo outside my house. It’s 13 reg, but it is a 2012 model. I’ll change the plate to a personal reg soon anyway.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Ford Mustang is the best modern American musclecar - OK, some may say the Camaro, but I don’t think so. Sadly the new Challenger seems to occupy third place for most people.

There are more powerful Mustangs out there. I have driven several modern Mustangs including a GT500, but nothing to compare with the Boss 302 as a pure driving experience. Ford got it right with the original Boss 302 in 1969/70 and got it right again with the new car. They could have just made it a go-fast stickers job, but they didn’t, this is a proper weekend track car that can be a daily driver too. The Boss version of the 5.0 Coyote engine is fantastic, with short shift 6-speed and 3.73 gears and Torsen differential.

I love that :thumbright: ......the Mustang is still the only car for me that has made the transition to modern muscle, this latest gen is the best yet.
The Challenger and Camaro just miss the mark and the Vette is a different type of car now anyway.

I have to agree on that :thumbright:

Cracking car. If I wanted to buy a moden yank it would have to be the Mustang.

Saw the Boss 302 reviewed in a few places when it first came out (as well as on Top Gear USA) and it certainly seems to tick all the right boxes. :thumbright:

The Boss is loads of fun. I haven't enjoyed myself this much in any American car since I bought my '69 Hemi Road Runner over thirty years ago.

I bought that Road Runner while the cars were still regular drivers and not only driven gently on sunny Sundays. I used to beat the hell out of that Runner.

The Boss 302 brings those days back again. It encourages you to drive it and enjoy the fantastic engine and the well set up handling. It's a great car.

You should've gone to Specsavers Dave.

The Hemicuda is Purple.
The Boss is Blue.

Wasn't sure if it was a muddy blue or dirty purple from that photo.

But I am colour blind yes..

Both have a white painted top though! ;)

My daily driver is an E63 AMG Merc which according to MB has 525hp and 0-60 time in 4.2 secs. The Boss 302 has 444hp and also 0-60 in 4.2 secs (a couple of testers have seen 4.0 and 3.9). The Boss feels quicker off the mark (3.73 gears) but I reckon they are closely matched after that. The E63 will surely take over at the high end I would guess. But the two cars are poles apart in every way.

Ford likes to compare the Boss 302 with the BMW M3. That’s OK on the track, the Boss does very well and as often as not comes out on top. But in every other way there is no comparison. The M3 is a masterpiece of technology from front to back. The Boss 302 has fantastic looks and a great engine, but is otherwise a typically crude American car. Which is part of the fun.
