Radiator

I had this creaking sound when I accelerated or braked hard from low speed and finally sorted it out tonight. Turned out to be the clutch operating lever that goes from the motor to the chassis rubbing up against a redundant bracket. Took the bracket off and the noise went away. Just thought I'd try the brake test to make sure and the flexi fan hit the radiator and trashed it. I'd just had a good look at the engine mountings and they are both fine, there's about an inch between the fan and the radiator.

...Hmmmm, had that on my A12 Lift off Hood Roadrunner - in fact I did it twice; never found the cause...that was a 4 speed as well and the all the mounts checked out fine.
That was with the standard fan as well.
No words of wisdom from me here, sorry....... and good luck with the diagnosis.

That looks like a top job, was it an arm and a leg, or would it be worth me coming up from Oxford to get mine done?

Not that its close for you Ivor, but I got my rad re-conditioned and re/cored near Croydon. They did a really excellent job, with a choice of finishes. On,ly cost me ?180 + the VAT

Ivor, most local radiator factors will recore any rad or heater matrix.

Sounds like the motor is moving forward under braking, I think I'd be making up some kind of restraint from the block back to the torsion bar crossmember to stop that happening again, are your engine and transmission mounts in good shape?

Maybe solid engine mounts would cure it too?

Yes I?m on holiday but while the wife roasts by the pool I have found this computer. The radiator was recored by Serc Marsden (not sure thats spelt right) they have a place about 2 minutes walk from my house, cost 130 quid plus VAT and took 2 days because they had to order the core. Better get back to the pool, my beers getting warm.
